Young people are a vital part of our parish life.
Whether you’re looking to serve, pray, create, or lead, there are welcoming ways to get involved at St John’s and across our parishes.
Caritas Volunteers
The Caritas Volunteers programme at our Parishes offers pupils from Holyrood High School a meaningful opportunity to grow in faith, service, and leadership. Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, the programme encourages young people to put their faith into action by serving others with compassion, responsibility, and commitment.
Caritas Volunteers complete 20 hours of service. These 20 hours are designed and agreed with the parish (Fr Jock, Natalie Kane and Deacon Eddie) suiting their needs and skills. This program is designed to help them develop leadership skills and an active, lived faith. Through their involvement, pupils are encouraged to engage with the wider community by assisting parish activities, and helping to organise and participate in Mass and other liturgical events. It is hoped this will be a spiritual experience for them and help their faith grow as they enter adulthood.

Taizé Prayer
In the busyness of our daily lives, finding a moment of true quiet can be a challenge. We invite you to step away from the noise and join us at St John’s Church for our monthly Taizé Prayer service.
Held on the last Sunday of every month at 7:00 pm, this service offers a unique opportunity for reflection, song, and communal silence.
What is Taizé?
Originating from the ecumenical monastic community in Taizé, France, this style of prayer is centred on simple, meditative chants that are repeated as a form of “prayer of the heart.” Surrounded by the soft glow of candlelight,
Led by Youth, Open to All
While this service is led by younger members of our parish, its doors are open to everyone of all ages. Whether you are a lifelong parishioner, a student, or someone from the wider community looking for a peaceful way to end your week, you are most welcome here.
The service includes:
Media Team
The Parish Media Team plays an important role in sharing the life, faith, and stories of our parish community with the wider world. The team helps create and manage a variety of digital content, including podcasts, interviews, testimonies, videos, and other media productions that reflect our faith in action.
Young people from our parishes are warmly invited to join the Media Team. No prior experience or qualifications are required — training and guidance will be provided. Whether you enjoy media, storytelling, technology, or simply want to learn something new while serving the parish, the Media Team offers a welcoming and creative way to get involved.
By joining the Media Team, you can help spread the message of faith, build community, and use modern media as a tool for evangelisation and connection. We encourage anyone interested to come forward and be part of this exciting parish mission.
